I decided to start a series of drawing exercices. For the first series I will use my favorite drawings from an excellent book, called The Pen & Ink Book by A. Jos. Smith, as an inspiration and theme based material.

Challenge: Pick up a photo online of a animal head with some really cool horns, print it and put it by your side while on a drawing paper you make very light guidelines for the overall forms with a colored pencil. Using a thin pen try to create the textures and tonal areas of the image. Try to relay more on hatching than in lineart drawing and avoid cross-hatching for this exercise. Above all, have fun.
